2020-09-01 Windy Warmish Day!

Jim's Dock Flag!
Dried Meat Lake - Ted's Place

It was really windy.  This is the second time this week that I have left wind to find wind.  I left at about 9:30 and got to Jim Soneff's just after 12:00 Noon!

Wabamun Lake - Big Air Jim's

Kent was out on a 3.8 and his foil, and Jim was just heading out on a 3.7 when I arrived.  I don't have gear that small to foil, so I rigged my 5.6 Hucker and Stubby board.

I had all my gear down at the water when the wind dropped and the guys both came in.  Kent rigged up to his 5.2 Flyer, so I did the same and rigged my foil board and 5.2 Flyer.

Then the wind came back.  Kent went back out on his 3.8 and sailed on it for the rest of the day.

Blaine and Cynthia arrived.  Blaine rigged his 4.2 and Foil, and Cynthia was also on a foil (can't remember the sail size).

I brought down my Shark windsurf board (more floatation) and had a great WINDSURFING session, feeling a little out of place being the only windsurfer amongst all the foilers!

I think we all had a great day.  The wind was up and down, so I am glad I was on my big board.  There were some awesome gusts, and also times when I couldn't waterstart.

We came off the water after 4:00, all pretty-well spent.  Blaine and Kent talked about going back out but procrastinated until the wind dropped - a decision made.

Resting after a great session!

There were no big stories or major rescues today.   I did have one "over the handlebar" fall where I had to lay on my sail and take stock of all my body parts before getting going again.  Fortunately, all the parts were there and nothing was broken.

Kent enjoyed sailing all around the lake checking on everybody - and I don't think he even hit anyone today!

Cynthia is doing really well and working on her jibes.  Blaine is also making most of his jibes.

Lots of rigging and de-rigging practice!

Lake St. Anne - Alberta Beach

Harold's Report:

Here’s today’s Alberta Beach Report.

It was gusting from nothing to 50 or more, weird pulsing shots of wind (different than sustained gusts), shifting winds, lots of chop, big swells (bigger where they broke on the shallow beach).  In other words, challenging and great fun!!!

Al was using his 4.8, I was using my 4.7 (after an abortive start on my 4.2), Tim was using his 5.4 and I believe Vadim was using a 5.3.  Ross, Mike and I believe Andreas were pirouetting by the pier on their kites.

We sailed from about 1130AM to about 3PM, when the wind went away.

Some Photos from Andreas...
