2020-09-02 More Wind

Pigeon Lake - Brad's Place

Harold's Report:

I’m sorry (Ted) you didn’t make it to Brad’s place, but you know how it goes – if you want great conditions invite Ted and hope he can’t make it (kidding, sort of...).  The consolation prize was that I see Ted did got some good sailing at Dried Meat, so I’m happy about that.

The usual suspects showed up at Brad’s place (should Place be capitalized?) – Ross, Mike, Brad, Blaine, Al, Vadim, and me.

There was enough wind that Ross was on his 5.5 kite all day.

I sailed a 4.7, Brad and Al sailed 4.8s, Mike a 5.2 (I think) and Vadim a 5.3.

Blaine foiled his 4.2 and Brad joined him later in the day.  Those guys are looking good!  Blaine’s hitting a few no-touch jibes (especially if you count the ones where he just clips the top of a swell or two).

The windsurfing speed guys (Mike, Blaine and Al) found lots of troughs to blast through at insane speeds, which meant that I had lots troughs to mess around in at my turtle pace.

Vadim has taken a BIG step forward, which means that he will have to endure even more unwanted advice from pretty much everybody.

I want more and I want it now!

Dried Meet Lake - Ted's Place

Ted's Report:

I was quite tired and sore from yesterday.  I did not feel like sailing, but the conditions looked great!

I procrastinated, doing various things around the house, but the wind didn't die, so at about 4:00 I went out on my 5.6 Hucker and Shark Board.  It was the perfect call as there were some big lulls.  There were a couple of big gusts, and one actually tore the sail out of my hands after completing a jibe - but I had some really good fast runs.  I made the majority of my jibes, and all but one in the wind - the others I went in with the apparent wind, but then the wind quit halfway through - sometimes unexpectedly.  It was a good session.  My maximum speed was 43kph, and I sailed about 16km.

It started to rain a bit when I was just coming in, so I packed up quickly and brought everything up the hill.  It then turned sunny again, so I laid my sail out on the grass to dry and went for a hot tub.    It is pretty easy to self isolate in a hot tub when you are the only one in it.

It was a really good session - I am glad I went out!
